Just to add that you must be sure that #1 cylinder is on the compression stroke at TDC. Check this by turning the engine slowly with your thumb in #1 plug hole. When you feel/hear air pressure as the piston comes up,you know you are on the compression stroke. Otherwise if by chance the #1 cylinder was coming up to TDC on the exhaust stroke,the distributor rotor would be 180 degrees out from the #1 ignition position.
