I purchased several truck magazines to give me an idea of what items I might use on my 1949 1 ton Chevy. I'm thinking of switching differentials, so am looking along the lines of brakes, booster brakes, etc.

Anyway, one of the magazines I started thumbing through had an article on getting rid of the old latches that typically are worn out, in favor of what they called the bear claw latch.

Since I was looking at $45 per latch plate for replacements I will check into this further. Safer for certain. I'll also check on used latch plates, but most are already worn out from ill fitting doors due to sagging hinges.

The "Truck Builder" magazine also had an article on switching old Chevrolets over to a one piece windshield of modern safety glass.
