no reason you can't make one longer, seems to me it is a straight shaft, cut it, bevel the ends, cut a a piece of stock the same diameter to the needed legnth, bevel both ends, clamp everything together in a legnth of angle iron, tack weld, turn, tack weld, keep your weld size equal all the way around and it should not warp the shaft. file or grind the welds level with the rest of the shaft. be careful not to rotate the ends when you clamp it up.. good luck
