From the sounds of it, you may have the wrong light switch. Ford used the same layout for a couple of different applications, but internals/tab connections were just different enough.

On Fords, your running lights should be Brown wire. Green will be left turn/ (brake at rear). Orange will be right turn/(brake at rear).
I am trying to recall the color coding Ford used after having not had to deal with it for about a decade now. I do not recall what the headlights were, but the dash lights I want to say is light blue with a single red trace.

I will double check these and the color for the headlights.
