I work at a large Ford and Chrysler dealership, in the service department, located in the Midwest. We sell diesel trucks to farmers who buy them for reasons from image to convenience (they already have diesel fuel on the farm for their tractors), and even to some of them who use them to work and pull trailers. Fords have been putting oil burners in them since 1983 when they bought a bunch of them from International Harvester. There are a few people who bought trucks 10 and 15 years ago who still have them and those trucks need only routine maintenance. Glow plugs seem to be the most trouble for a lot of the Ford owners, but one fellow I remember offhand has the habit of plugging his truck in all year round and still has the original ones in it. Dodges with the Cummins have been around for at least 10 years and, again, with routine maintence they seem to want to run forever. Seems that with the Dodge the body of the truck is what goes first.
