The wheel spacers would be the way to go to avoid any potential problems with braking. You might dive into a Hollander interchange to see if you might find something that can fit without a need for rework.

It is not so much an issue of shaving a little here or there, it would actually be more a matter of having adequate clearnces. Any trimming would have to be done to the caliper, as any trimming on the hub, or the abutment for the brake caliper is going to move them closer to the wheel, unless you are slotting the abutment (not a good idea) to get it to sit closer to the rotor in the radial direction.

The better option is to locate identical wheels for the front with the correct "offset", otherwise the potential for problems is going to be too great.
