Chevy duramax hasn't been around long enough to prove itself. Ford Powerstroke is a good engine if you like loud knocking, glow plugs, and high revs all day.

Answer one simple question and you will know which one to buy: Which engine goes in new tractors and has been in them for quite a while? Also, which of those brands is in over the road trucks?
