Hydraulic Hoist Fluid?

Posted by P Backus on April 22, 2005 at 15:23:54 from (69.128.32.152):

I'm in the process of assembling my Ford 9000 with a 25' flatbed
and a 24 ton hoist (all used stuff). As I'm installing the PTO and
wet kit (or pump and resevoir), I realized that I'm not sure what
oil to use in the hydraulic system. Being a farm boy, and this will
be a farm truck, my inclination would be to use Hy-tran fluid
that I use in the tractor hydraulic systems. Will that be okay, or
do I have to get something else (that I will have to keep track
of!). It has a Williams pump.
The truck is a '78 and should be a pretty capable and "groovy"
truck when I get it done. I'd like to build grain sides for it too,
but I'll have to watch how much I put in it so that I don't end up
shoveling it out!
Any thoughts? Thanks!
Paul
