A 312 "y" block from the later 50's bolts right in and has decent power and gets over 18 mpg on the hiway with over drive and 3.89 rear end . These engine were rated at about 225hp at the flywheel . If I were to swap engine then I would go for light weight cause with Fords set back axle in 54 put lots of weight on the front end.
