1974 Chevy Step Van

I am rebuilding a 74 Chevy Step Van for a business. When I step on the brake pedal it squeals like a pig and the engine almost dies at idle with the brake pedal applied. I'm guessing the belt is slipping and causing the squeal along with pedal movement when the pedal is pushed full down when parked. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated!
