Merc 508 - Faulty Brakes

Hiya - I need some advice from a Merc owner that has had to deal with brake systems.

My Mercedes 508 (built 1979) has lost its brake power. I have traced the problem to the master cylinder which was leaking brake fluid from a small pin hole located just below the barrel, where it meets the brake silo.

I bought a new master cylinder with new seals and installed it. However, now I have two problems. The new master cylinder is still spurting brake fluid from the pin-hole each time the brakes are pumped. The second problem is that the brake cylinder does not seem to fit flush against the Brake silo - consequentally a small ammount of pressure is lost around the edging of the master cylinder and Silo.

Can anyone tell me what the function of that pin hole is? What would be a reason it spurts fluid if all the seals are new?

One final observation I made is that when one pumps the brakes the top-up cistern located beside the drivers seat bubbles air. Could this be a result of a hole in system?

many thanks to all of you for taking the time to read this...
