Disconnect the linkages on the end with the adjustments (usually trans end). Put tranny arms in nutral position.

There is a hole in the column tube on both sides of the opening and in the shift levers, use a 3/16-7/32 pin to hold these aligned (use the biggest pin possible).

Some might use a bolt to pinch the linkage rod leave these in and just tighten after aligning.

Most have pinned on ends that thread on the linkage rod, adjust these so they fit in without forcing or moving anything. Replace pins in shift arms and reinstall clips.
