I am working on the same conversion to a '59 Chevy. I plan to also swap over the shackles(spring holders)from a later model('70s-'80s) chasis and install new 6" lift springs. Axle clearance will not be a problem with the lift springs. I'm still not sure on how to mount the power-steering pump though. Has anyone mounted spring shackles from a later model Chevy on a '55 to '59 2X4 frame, or installed a later model power-steering?
