Thought you fellers might get a kick out of this:
Back around 1946-7, a friend had an old Plymouth coupe, 1934, 6 cylinder. He blew the engine, so he bought one from the junk yard, guy there said it would fit!
So, he got the old one out, and the better one in. Junked the old engine! Thats when he found that the starter wouldn't go in where it belonged! Seemed there was a design difference between '34 and '37, something to do with the rear engine mount, and the design of the water jacket in the block!
Good thing he lived on a steep street!
Well, he sold the car to some sucker! Told him the battery was low, then took the guy on a demo ride! The buyer said he'd take it, so they went to the Notary to get the title changed, leaving the car running (To charge the battery, of course!) Afterwards the new owner took my friend home, and left with his prize!
Next day, the guy called my friend and said his battery was dead again, the car wouldn't start, what could he do about it? Well, my friend went there, opened the hood, and informed the owner that somebody had stolen the starter!
After much haranging, the guy got his money back, after threatening a law suit! My friend didn't have a pot or a window to throw the contents out of, so he gave the money back! And junked that sorry piece!
Oh, for the good old days!
