Hi guys, Need the help of the experts deciding on a used tow vehicle powerplant. Here are the requirements. Right now, wife has a two horse bumper pull horse trailer, but may want to go to a gooseneck at some point. For me, I may want to hook on to a car trailer and drag home an old tractor or musclecar to restore. This truck will not be driven daily. Thinking late 70s to early
90s, maybe F-250/350. Does a diesel even make sense in this application? I know how to rebuild
gas engines and auto transmissions, but do not know the first thing about checking out a used diesel. Would the F-250 or the F-350 be the best choice for this use? Gas or diesel? If diesel, how do I evaluate the condition of the engine, without taking it to a diesel mechanic to be checked out? Thanks a lot for your expertise.
