Hey Rick I was told a long time ago that some of those rebuilt starters or reproduced ones are off too much on thier tolerances as compared to a genuine GM starter head making them noisy and having to have shims.I starting getting the real thing and never had to shim and no odd noises.They are more costly but you will see that it is worth the extra cost.Hope this helps.Jack(TN).
