Any GM built between 62 and the early 70's would have an external regulator Delco alternator, no generator. yours sounds like it is running unregulated. With gen light 1 regulator F to alternator F
1 regulator F to alternator F 2 regulator 3 to ign switch 3 ground and hot lead,the same as the gen light wiring.
