Re: chevy altenator

Any GM built between 62 and the early 70's would have an external regulator Delco alternator, no generator. yours sounds like it is running unregulated.
The wiring from the regulator to the external regulator alternator are.

With gen light

1 regulator F to alternator F
2 regulator 2 to alternator R
3 black ground wire goes to GRD stud on alternator case.
4 heavy power wire goes to BAT stud on alternator.


With amp guage.

1 regulator F to alternator F

2 regulator 3 to ign switch

3 ground and hot lead,the same as the gen light wiring.
