I repowered a maverick with a 300. It replaced a little 250 which is basically like a 170-200 small 6. The beauty of replacing a 250 was that it had the same bellhousing pattern as a 300 or 302 V8,so the transmission fit.
Were the inline sixes ever used in a ranger,or were they all I-4 or V-6. If so,the engine compartment may be too short for a big six.
