Re: 300-6 in a Ranger?Posted by John McPherson on July 16, 2005 at 17:47:47 from (216.251.171.201): In Reply to: 300-6 in a Ranger? posted by Mopower on July 15, 2005 at 10:21:36: If you cut into the firewall and floor, you could make it fit. Otherwise the 300/240 and 200/250 sixes are just too long. The 300 might actually be a little too tall for the compartment too. The small rangers never were equipped with an inline 6, they always had either the 4 cylinder engines (2L and 2.3L) and the V-6's, (2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 4.0). The "Ranger Lightning" modifieds used a 351 windsor with heavier spring coils up front. If you do such a shoe horn, get a C4 or C5, or older manual for size considerations, as there is very little room under the tunnel. To pull an A4LD with some degree of ease, you need 3 feet of socket extension and a stiff flex joint, any other way is hard on the knuckles and patience. The A4LD is a weak limited life transmission- all engine power is delivered through a splined shaft about the size of your small finger.
