Go with an original. The trucks from the 40's were built tough. Big Ernie my 46 Ford cost me 400.00 at the junkyard and another 100.00 for a spare truck with an engine. The old boy has a little rust but the frame and drive train are excellent. With a 14,500 lb GVW it is more than enough to haul my tractor or a load of logs. Top end hasn't been found yet but with no shocks 60 feels fast enough. The 40's Fords had flathead V8's from 42 to 47 it was the venerable 59A-B with 100 hp. The transmission is a 4 speed connected to a 2 speed rear axle. Components are easy to find and I bought most of the little stuff, plugs, points, etc. at the local auto store. Big Ernie's parts truck came with a original 1946 5000 lb PTO winch, yet to be installed, that will make loading the tractor much easier.

If nothing else you get to meet the nicest people when they ask "Where did you get that?"
