Back in 78 i had a new F250 4x4 that would just plum eat C 6 transin a week plowen snow the dealer was rebuilding them and stuffen them back in and a week later the truck was back after the fifth trans they said that they would no longer fix it as i was just to hard on the truck , well being and old Ford master tech i said fine you guys don't know what you are doing anyhow . So i did the trans and found the problem and corrected it and beefed the trans MY was by getting rid of the Bellville washers adding more clutches and plates upping the reg. pressure and i installed two pressure gauges to moniter the pressures from the cab and drilled the pan and installed a 1/2 inch pipe coupler and installed a S/W trans temp. gauge . The temps that i saw on that trans was at 55 mph just the truck on a hot summer day it ran 185 to 190 at 65 mph it would go up to 220 to 230 and pulling a load it would get up to 270 to 320 and ATF will take 340 as i am told now i had the cooler in the bottom of the radatior and also a external in ft. of the rad. Plowen heavy snow it would alway run up in the 250-280 range but i did work the bag of that truck it was doing what the state truck could not keep Rt. 9 open with drifts higher then the rotary lite on the roof was . Oh yea my rebuild lasted 5 years when the ft. clutch pack tore the teeth off the disks the lining was fine just no teeth. Don't think that the 460 had anything to do with it or not or pullen the township roadgrader out of them snow drifts or dragen a couple semis up a couple of snow covered hill had anything to do with it.
