deep cycle batteries

I have a battery charger that has a special setting on the dial for deep cycle batteries. How does charging a deep cycle differ from charging a regular battery? Also will putting a deep cycle battery in a pickup (70 dodge) harm either the battery or truck? I just happen to have one and truck needs battery.
