Whats wrong with my truck?

Bought me a 1984 chevy 3/4 ton truck new many years ago and lately when I hop in and turn the key it just makes one click sound. It always starts but sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries. Battery terminals are ok should I try a new starter, what else should I look at. I live 45 miles from the nearest auto part store and dont wantto make unnessary trips, thanks forany help Bill Lighthaus
