1979???whew,you got good service out of that lil spring pin:)...they do wear out too,especially after 23yrs of driving oil pumps...yeah,check distributor bushings & gear.also check to see if counterweights on centrifugal advance are still working correctly...have seen springs on them break & when counterweights hit housing it usually breaks spring pin...don't know if i would use a stronger pin in there or not...that is a good place for a weak link in oil pump drive(read cheap)...lots better than twisting off a shaft or breaking gears(been there,done that:()...
