You must live in a " dry " western state.Where I live in the great northeast,trucks of that vintage are long gone due to rust and rot.Comparable Ford of that size would be like a F-600 or 700.I would go with the air brakes.Not too bad to work on,and besides,a small leak in the system doesn't leave a puddle of fluid on your shop floor.Lots of good info about air brake systems on the internet also.If your mechanical ability is somewhat limited,gas engine is probably your best bet.Spark plugs and plug wires are cheap.Diesels are pricey to get repaired.Don't know much about the Dodge trucks.I'm sure others will chime in with more info.Good luck in your search and your expanded farm.
