Does your truck have the original battery cables on it? If so, they could be your problem. Do a draw test on the battery first. If that passes, move to the cables. Take a razor blade and cut the cable insulation back a little by the battery terminals, or the starter terminal. If you see lot's of green corrosion under the insulation, yer' on to somethin. An old nasty set of battery cables can cause yer' truck to act like that. Low voltage and high resistance to the starter will make it "click" several times before she fires up.
Also, check the position of the ignition switch on the steering column. Sometimes the two screws that hold the switch loosen up and the ignition switch moves down on the column over the years because of the key lever pushing into the switch. This in turn will not let the key lever plunger in the switch reach the "start" position causing it not to make good contact. I've come across these problems many times with GM cars & trucks.
