55 Chevy Project

Recently picked up a 55 Chevy. Has a 283 with a Muncie 4 spd. Rest is pretty much like OEM stuff, including the 3.90: rear end. This setup stresses pretty hard at higher speeds (55+). I have been getting lots of advice from just about everyone and his mother.

I would like to get this thing to be a half-way decent highway machine. So, I am considering (over time for cash reasons) this wish list:

Convert to 5 lug, 4 wheel disk w/dual master
3.08 Rear end
350 small block
Tremec TKO (1st @ 3.27, 5th @ .64)

Question is with this 5,000 lb truck, will it overstress the 350 (not sooped up) w/ the 3.08 r/e with a .64:1 5th. That calculates out to a drive ratio of 1.97:1.
