The basic body style was from 1973-1980. The hood was slightly differant on the 1980. The cab was similar on the 81-87. They had changeover kits to allow part time 4wd. The full time did not have lockouts and the had a differential in the transfer case. I don't remember how the 4wd worked with the conversion worked.
