reciever hitch

id like to get a reciever hitch for my truck ( 89 chevy 2500) ive got a few questions though 1. its a 6 lug 3/4 ton so do i get a hitch for a 1500 or 2500? and would a class III hitch work pulling a G john deere or would a class 4 be better? if its needed at all it has a 350 and 700 r4 tranny
