Re: 66 chevy truck vin location?Posted by Hal/WA on October 18, 2005 at 22:38:51 from (148.65.0.200): In Reply to: 66 chevy truck vin location? posted by jesse on October 17, 2005 at 19:12:48: I used to work with that kind of information, but retired and no longer have the books. It seems to me that there should be a stamped frame number and also one on the doorpost. There also could be a firewall tag. I would look at the outside of the driver's side front framerail first. The term VIN started at about the time your truck was made. The dash VIN started in the early 70's or so, to make identification easier without having to enter the vehicle or open the hood. Earlier models used body numbers and/or engine numbers for title identification and are sometimes very hard to positively identify, with tags and engines swapped around. If you cannot find the number and have a title, I would suggest talking to the state police agency to see where you need to take it to get the identification verified. If you don't have a title, it is even more important to get the verification that someone else doesn't actually own it. I would not invest any more money in the truck until you are sure you really own it. I know a couple of horror stories about people losing vehicles to the actual owners after investing thousands into repairs, because they did not really have clear title to the vehicle. The vehicle HAS TO MATCH THE TITLE. Good luck!
