Hard starting

My '79 Chev 3/4 ton is getting more difficult to start. I
have to pump the gas or sometimes hold the gas pedal
down to the floor. If I try to re-start it immediately after
shutting down it'll start okay.

I suspect the float valve is leaking, although I replaced this
with a rebuild kit about four years ago.

Any suggestions?
