Even back then cars would last 100k plus miles and knock down 25 mpg or better if you drove decent. Sure we have smaller engines making more power and we can get up to 75 mph in 7 seconds instead of 14, but what good does that do when it's time to pull up to the pump and pay for your fuel? There were cars, like your Tempo, in the 80's that made better mileage than the new hybrids do! My del Sol is only a few mpg behind a new Civic hybrid that costs over $20,000 and my car was only $13k new! Well, that's the end of my ranting for this morning...
