Purchased a cute little GMC 5500 dump, 350/5 speed, two speed rear end with vacuum shift. Ring gear and pinion shot. Paid hamsomely to have a qualified shop rebuild it. Ran about fifty miles and came apart. The two speed was locked in low when I purchased the vehicle, so I assume that was what took the rear end out. Any one out there ever had this problem, and it seems that I should switch the axle out to put in one of the electric shifts or discard the vacuum and use the live hydrulics to shift it. I will rebuild it myself the next time, so does anyone out there know of a parts souce?
