A compression test will indicate good or bad valves/rings,but will not indicate if valve seals are good or bad.The valve seals only seal oil out of the valve guides, they do not seal compression. Yes,replace all valve seals. A few tips for replacing valve seals without removing the heads. 1 Before you try to remove the valve retainer and spring, With air pressure in the cylinder and rocker arm removed, place a 5/8 deepwell socket over the valve stem, straddling the valve keepers/locks.Strike the socket with a small hammer to loosen the valve locks from the valve retainer, tap it a couple of times. The valve locks are usually wedged tight in the retainer and need this blow to the retainer to release them. 2 After replacing the seal, valve spring and retainer, and valve locks on the valve,Tap the tip of the valve stem several times with that same small hammer. This will make sure the valve locks are correctly installed in the grooves in the valve and seated in the retainer. If the valve locks are not correctly seated in the valve and retainer, they will allow the valve spring and retainer to fly off the valve stem and drop the valve into the cylinder. You want to find a condition like that NOW when you can easily correct it,not when the engine is running which at a minimum will bend the valve, and often destroys the engine.
