8 volt vehicle batteries... any opinions?

Do these things have an effect on guages,6 volt radios etc? I have been told the v-regulator has a higher tolerance than 6 volts anyway so there should be no problem. Also told they should crank the starter faster and that never hurts on an L-head.What do you fellas think. Thanks
