it won't affect power a bit.will make the truck lighter though(seems like more power)...the simplest way to shorten frames on a larger truck is to simply move spring mounts forward the desired amount on the frame & then cut off excess rear overhang & reinstall rear crossmember...you have to be really close on drilling the new holes so the truck will run straight...most spring mounts are riveted on & you have to cut the rivets to remove.use REAL grade 8 fine thread bolts & nuts to replace the rivets & then double nut them with nylock nuts...done right & the frame is as strong as origonal...much better than cutting out a section & rewelding...
