Yes, the 305 or 351 GMC V-6 ia an awsome motor. Nothing will stop them.
Not all v-8 engines were high end, I am about to put a Caddy 425 in my '70 one ton Chevy. I wanted a 500, but the price on the 425 was too good to pass up.
The caddy 500 can put out 500 ft pounds of torque at a hair over idle. That's a frame twister there.
On the GMC engines...have you seen this site? It has everything you'll ever want to know about them.
