First, as it has low milage, the hole conversion is unnessisary. Furthermore I'm not sure what you intend on doing with this truck but as a full time mechanic and driver of heavy trucks, I believe that you might be doing this truck a terrable injustice. For example, my daily driver is a 72 dodge 4 ton crew cab with a 8 thousand pound bed and w/ trailer my total weight is 34 thousand pounds and all I have is a 318 w/ 360 heads, an Offenhouser intake and carter marine 4bbl carb. W/ the over sized heads it's a low compression motor witch meens low power but great low end power, reliability, and long lasting. them appels arent rotten! this beaut has 735thousand miles on a gas small block. The argument is diesel is cheaper, but I get 18 mpg in town and 23.8mpg on hwy, plus all acrossed the country gas is cheaper than diesel. You can convert if you want and I support the radical, you really don't need it, and you will find more cost in driveline manufacturing and mounts and linkages than you thought. My oppinion is, stick with the 292 streaght six that came stock in that truck and if thats not what is in it, find one! It is better on gas than a Cummings, and offers all the low end power as Cummings, and gas is temporarily cheaper unless you make your own diesel. Think it through, plan it carefully befor you get started, and make sure you know what you want. We all here @ O.S.A. wish you luck.
