another clutch question

I have a '66 f100,352,3 speed column shift.
The problem is it will not shift into 2nd or 3rd.

I adjusted the rod and it shifted through the gears one time. When I stopped and took off again the same thing happened , no second or third gears.
The rod is almost all the way out and the pedal comes off the floor about four or five inches before it grabs.

Any other ideas before I dig through the dirt and oil to change the clutch?
