If I remember correctly, the 375 horse engine only came in the Corvette and had Rochester Fuel Injection, a very hot solid camshaft and very high compression. Must have been a very rare truck. I never got to drive a Rochester FI car, but I have driven lots of vehicles with small blocks with lots of horsepower. Most all of them idled poorly and were pretty doggy below 3500 or 4000 rpm. Not the kind of engine I would choose in a truck built to haul heavy weight. Some of the Pontiac 389's would have been fine truck engines. They always were torquers. GMC used some Pontiac engines in medium trucks in the 50's, and some of them might well have been 389's. But probably not the high horsepower tripower and super duty engines that GM offered in some cars.
