1972 posche 914 coonvertible

I have a 1972 porsche convertible and the accelerator pedal sticks. It rev's up when starting the vehicle. I shut it off right away. Someone told me the cable is stuck or rusted up. is there a quick fix to my problem? thanks. T.J.
