How many of ya are professional mechanics here?Posted by Jak on February 24, 2006 at 14:21:59 from (208.47.17.47):
I have been a mechanic since I started work at a dealership in 1985.I worked on stuff up to then too.The reason I ask is because I am thinking about repairing a car given to me as a gift(hey it was free)that needs a head gasket replaced, possibly a cracked head too. Here it goes:it is a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with a 2.4 Litre engine.Father in Law got it hot at 140k and started leaking water out the head gasket. It will run but misses. It is a DOHC Quad 4.Is it going to be a booger to repair,I have never been into one of those and not seen too much major engine work of my own.I have done tractor engines,350/400 Chevrolet engines but not an aluminum 2.4 DOHC.Thanks for any help guys,Jack(TN).
