Scott, the shift tube inside of the steering column is stripped. This a result of either just normal wear, or because the cab mounts are rusting away, which allows the cab to drop down and thus puts all the weight of the cab right on the steering column and the shift tube is what ends up taking most of that force. New replacement cab mounts are readily available from a variety of sources and are not expensive.
