I doubt it's the carburetor..my guess its ignition or a valve problem..check plugs, plug wires, dist. cap, make sure you have a good spark .... on the valve part, check for weak or broken valve springs , also check for worn lobes on the cam.. sometimes you can have good compression at cranking speeds but not at higher speeds,ie valve not closing at high rpm because of a spring problem or because of valve not opening enough.(worn cam lobe)
