ford transmission code

I'm looking at buying a 96 ford f250. it has the 4.9 i6 engine and an automatic transmission. the sticker on the door shows the transmission code to be "g". i know "e" is an e40d transmission. there is also a "u" listed as an overdrive transmission. but I can't find a "g". any help would be apreciated as well as comments on the reliability of this transmission. thanks
