To jump across the solenoid, use a jumper cable, and go from battery to starter, (the big posts). If you can't access the solenoid, try going under the vehicle, attach a Vise-grip to the starter battery connection, attach a jumper cable to the vice-grip, being doubly sure this hot cable isn't going to ground on something, and jumper to another battery, it should crank now. Using a vice grip on the post will give a much bigger contact area, and is less likely to slip off. Be real sure its out of gear before trying this. If a Ford type solenoid just clicks, I'd look at the battery cables very closely, sounds like a lack of voltage problem, are they well cleaned and is there a cable end replacement on one or both? Those things have left me walking more than I care to think. John in Ne.
