I have installed the International 345 with the 5-speed, but found out later parts are not only hard to find - but expensive. When I wanted to go from the point system to the electronic ignition, the distributor was $1000. I then went to the junkyard and got the whole setup for $25. If you are in an area where there is an International Dealer, and alot of Internationals in a junkyard, it is not a bad idea to have an International in your truck. I do believe it is alot stronger than most other trucks. The 5-speed transmission is more reliable. Here are a few things you have to think about: drive-shafts, radiator mounts, and distributor parts. Of course, once I transferred over to an electronic distributor, I have not had to worry about parts. I noticed a big difference in starting and the engine runs alot better. One other thing -- there are not many engine manuals available for the International and they have an electronic ignition system all its own. I had trouble with what they call the "gold box" and vacuum box. When the engine would stall out, and you had no vacuum, the ignition system would shut down. They no longer sell the vacuum box and recommend you use a Chrysler resistor.
