Bevan, there's a terrific website with a forum for '48-60 Ford trucks at the link below. They also have forums for different engines. They have a searchable archive, too, but you have to register to use it. I have been registered there for a couple years now and don't get spammed from it, so they seem to be okay. As for changing engines, you might have some problems with fitting the exhaust in there, especially around the steering box, but with a '53-56 you will have better luck finding headers than if it was a '48-52.
