Re: 300-6 in 71 F600 would it swap in my 83 F150 with 300-6Posted by Hal/WA on July 16, 2002 at 16:59:15 from (208.8.194.52): In Reply to: 300-6 in 71 F600 would it swap in my 83 F150 with 300-6 posted by Boyd on July 14, 2002 at 23:30:39: The only thing that has not been mentioned that I would be concerned about is emission compliance. If your area has mandatory inspection with a sniffer test, I doubt that the older engine would pass. It probably has nothing more than a pcv valve for emission gear. The newer engine probably has egr, a catalytic converter, a vapor canister, electronic ignition that may be computer controlled and other sensors and devices connected by about a quarter mile of hoses. If the inspectors look for and don't see all that stuff, you don't pass and have to go through all sorts of red tape and expense to get the vehicle relicensed, at least in my state. The exhaust sniffer might work OK if you leave the catalytic converter there. I think F150's had them by 83. If you do not have to worry about emission inspection, it would probably work. If you do, I would suggest changing over all the emission control stuff from the newer engine to the older one. It's just lots less hassle.
