Thanks for posting what you found, Jack.... I don't know if you removed the oil pan, but the pieces from the timing gear will fall into the pan and sometimes will be pulled into the oil pump and cause the shaft to break... also check the valve seals, they will also break and fall into the oil pan causing the pump to lock and shaft to break...
